This is a guide to the minimum system requirements and recommended configurations for running WinGate server. The WinGate server can be installed on any computer on your network, so long as it has a direct connection to the Internet.

If you have a choice, we recommend Windows NT/2000/XP as it has far better built-in security than Windows 95 or 98.

Small LAN: 2-5 users

• Minimum basic requirements
  Pentium II 233Mhz 32 megs Ram
  Windows 95/98
  56k modem
  TCP/IP Protocol installed
  Winsock 2 installed
• Recommended configuration Pentium 300+ with 64 megs ram Windows 2000 DSL TCP/IP and RRAS (Routing and Remote Access Service for NT only) installed Winsock 2 Upgrade Installed (only if running on Windows 95a)

Medium LAN: 5-20 users

  Pentium 300+ with 64 megs ram

  56k modem
  TCP/IP Protocol and RRAS (Routing and Remote Access Service) installed

• Recommended configuration
  Pentium 1000+ with 128 megs ram
  Windows 2000
  Broadband connection
  TCP/IP Protocol and RRAS (Routing and Remote Access Service for NT only)

Large LAN: 20+ users

• Minimum basic requirements
  Pentium 300+ with 64 megs ram
  Windows 2000
  ISDN connection / Leased Line / T1
  TCP/IP Protocol and RRAS (Routing and Remote Access Service) installed

• Recommended configuration
  Pentium 1000+ with 512 megs ram
  Windows 2000
  T1
  TCP/IP Protocol and RRAS (Routing and Remote Access Service for NT only)
